A new addition to the Normann-Copenhagen family, Woofy is a cable container dog that's sure to be man's best friend. Inspired by a trip to a friend's flat where cables had run amok, designer Gabriel Nigro's brilliantly designed dog is indeed the perfect companion.
Gabriel Nigro (1974), Danish/Argentine Designer. Resident in Copenhagen, Denmark since 1983. Background in Business, Marketing and Advertising.
Inspiration "I grew up in a very artistic family and was surrounded by creative people since I was very young. As a child I spent hours underneath my father's drawing board, a great deal of time watching my mother create her ceramics and often spent entire weekends at my uncle's atelier. These experiences have influenced me throughout my life, but are even more apparent to me today with the debut of Woofy. The process of making this piece has caused me to reflect on my family legacy and has served as a great inspiration to my work."
Approach "I love surprises. I'm like a little kid in that way. I have so many wild ideas all the time and I'm constantly inventing new ways to make life easier, more pleasurable, less complicated. I see an opportunity in every situation, and I like to use my creativity to solve problems. I spend hours thinking about solutions before I start taking things apart and putting them back together. I enjoy recreating the things that surround me in order to make them more functional, more meaningful for me and the way that I live."
Vision "Create solutions that are smart, inventive and always a bit playful."
Woofy offers a personalized way to conceal cables, neatly and discreetly, by hiding them inside his tummy, while making them accessible through his back foot. Forever loyal, Woofy is always there when you need him most.
Herman Miller's 3D Intelligent back material is a seating technology designed for the SAYL™ Chair. The 3-dimensional mesh-like suspension material is stretched from the Y-Tower at the back of the chair just as cables are stretched from the towers of a suspension bridge. The tension is greater in the transition areas, from the thoracic to the lumbar regions and between the lumbar area and sacrum. "Hinge points" allow these areas to flex and support the healthy, forward rotation of the pelvis. At the same time, less tension in other parts of the back encourages a full range of seated movement.
Y-Tower
Y-Tower is the primary support structure of Herman Miller's SAYL™ Chair. The Y-Tower retains tension, replacing the traditional frame of task chairs. It works like the towers from which a bridge is suspended and combines with a 3D Intelligent suspension material to provide frameless back support that hugs the user's back from resting through reclining, forward leaning and twisting motions.
