Designer: Alexander Purcell Rodrigues

Alexander Purcell Rodrigues launched his interdisciplinary studio in 2009. With an education from Cambridge University in England and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Alexander’s diverse creative background drives studio projects that run the gamut. He designs on every scale across a wide range of sectors including objects, furniture, art direction, interior environments along with a soon to be launched nomadic retail environment housed in the iconic shell of a 1973 Airstream Sovereign.

Over recent years, Alexander saw a paradigm shift in the conventional relationship between designer, manufacturer and retailer. With the desire to take control of this process he launched Purcell Living in 2011 to international acclaim. Through finding dynamic collaborations with specialist manufacturers in the US and Europe; Purcell Living has initiated new manufacturing methodologies breaking down the normal constraints of the development process.

Alexander's vision is to produce research driven, innovative designs that push the boundaries of aesthetics, technology and materials. His form language utilizes the controlled precision of modern technology without being defined by it; the touch of the skilled craftsman is far from neglected in his process. The manifestation of this are intriguing tactile products that capture the consumers imagination.
