The Urban Road Case

Overview

Urbancase created the Urban Road Case for several reasons: to eliminate packing material, for customer convenience, and for durability and protection during shipping of The Ledge Wall System.

Most crates are built using new manufactured materials and as a general rule they are built to last one or two times. It seems like a terrible waste to throw away styrofoam, bubble wrap, and plywood after one use. Many Urbancase customers live in urban areas and the task of disposing the amount of material required to ship a piece of furniture can be daunting. Enter the Urban Road Case.

It's really cool. There is something very rewarding about receiving a well made piece of furniture in a virtual strong box. It becomes part of the experience. And this is more robust than regular packaging. Its edges are aluminum and the body is a high strength plastic. It's built of three-quarters of a sheet of plywood or CDX, three-quarters of a sheet of 1" styrofoam, a 54" x 48" sheet of bubble wrap, 35-ft of 1"x2" solid pine and approximately 50 screws.

Return shipping does generate emissions, but Urbancase thinks the trade off is worth it. These cases are built to last and should never have to be replaced. They may need repairs from time to time, but since pieces are replaceable, that should be no problem. And the advantages to the customer are clear: no packaging to dispose of; the case is easily moved around (by even 1 person) with its integrated handles and wheels; and there is peace of mind that the enclosed furniture will arrive intact. You receive the case, you unpack it (the piece is wrapped in a flannel), throw the packing material back in the case, attach the enclosed return shipping label and call FedEx for pickup. Urbancase encourages you to put a decal or something on the inside to let others know where it's been. See? We said it was cool.

Road Case will be returned Urbancase for reuse.
