Because of technical progress in plastics processing, the Panton Chair has been through a number of production phases since its original launch. The last version of the chair authorized by Verner Panton was produced in collaboration with the designer at the end of the 1990s. This model realized one of Panton's fundamental objectives for the first time: a plastic chair as an inexpensive industrial product. Suitable for indoor/outdoor use.

Vitra

Vitra has manufactured furniture designs by Charles & Ray Eames and George Nelson since 1957. Building on this foundation, Vitra has developed a wide range of furnishings for the office, for the home and for public spaces in collaboration with progressive designers. Yet Vitra is more than just a design-oriented manufacturing company. The name also stands for the Vitra Design Museum, for a collection of modern furniture and its accompanying archive, for workshops and publications on topics of design, and for an architectural concept that unites buildings by Frank Gehry, Nicholas Grimshaw, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Alvaro Siza, Herzog & de Meuron and SANAA at the Vitra Headquarters in Birsfelden (Switzerland) and on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein (Germany).

Product longevity is central to Vitra's contribution to sustainable development; short-lived styling is avoided at all costs. This can be seen most clearly in the classical pieces of furniture that have been used for decades, had several owners and have then even ended up as a part of a collection. For Vitra, the manufacture of sustainable products means intense pre-production development, where the highest-grade materials are selected and tests are carried out that simulate 15 years of use. In order to enforce and monitor sustainable development in all business activities of the company, a work group was formed in 1986 by the name of 'Vitra and the Environment'. Because of this, Vitra can proudly claim that it has been dedicated to sustainability for nearly a quarter of a century.

Verner Panton

A remarkable and innovative talent, Verner Panton pioneered many firsts in 20th Century design and architecture. First to create transparent, inflatable furniture, Panton created with an unhindered imaginary vision. Bold, beautiful colors and shapes defined his vision of the future. The creator of many iconic modern designs over the course of his career (1926-1998), including the Cone Chair, C1 Chair and Panton Chair, Panton also successfully created a new set of theories about how lighting should work and how it should influence its surroundings. By fusing all the elements of a room — floor, walls, ceiling, furnishings, lighting, textiles and wall panels made of enamel or plastic — into a unified whole, Panton's interior installations have attained legendary status.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Iconic design, comfortable but wish I hadn't gotten it in orange I bought the Panton chair as a desk chair and it's surprisingly comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. Of course the design is fantastic, but I have to say that I wish I had gotten any other color but orange, which I ordered sight unseen. It's just a somewhat cheap looking orange in my opinion... more of a traffic cone orange than whatever hue I had in my head. Being a fairly inexpensive chair, I didn't think it was worth the shipping cost to send back. I can't fault the chair itself but I would suggest you see the orange color in person before ordering it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable but lightweight I am using on an upstairs patio. They chair is SMALL, but very comfy. Using it with a bistro table, so it works. However, they are VERY lightweight, and when the wind blows, they do NOT stay in place, I must bring inside. Keep in mind your location for these chairs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As expected, high quality These chairs are very comfortable. Indeed, the color is not black, as mentioned by others, however as we were adding one to our existing three chairs, we knew about it. Actually, the color match to the three old ones (older than ten years) is perfect, which tells that the color is not fading at all and kept at the same quality over years. The chairs are durable and fit to many table styles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the lines and very comfortable I can see how this chair is a design classic. It's like a sculpture near my fireplace with its flowing lines. It's beautiful and also so comfortable. Many chairs and couches are difficult for me to get out of due to knee surgery, but to my surprise, this has become my go-to chair. It's very comfortable, a total winner. I got it in white and it's striking next to my dark grey walls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple but elegant design Just purchase this Panton chair in Ice Grey which has more blue in it than grey...very nice. The chair is surprisingly more comfortable than it looks and the looks are definitely eye catching. We are currently utilizing it in doors in a small library area. The order from Yliving when very smoothly, which was an added plus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love this chair! The Panton chair is a classic. Not only does it look great, it sits extremely comfortably as well. Well priced and beautifully designed. The "grey ice" color has a lot of blue in it, and is a lovely shade, easy to live with. I love this chair.

I am working on decorating a bathroom in stark white, dove gray and rubber ducky yellow. Your Panton Chair fits the scene and is the vintage --but are you calling the yellow color in the picture on your web site Chartreuse--Is it yellow or more green?

Asked by: bryan1
Thank you for your question. That sounds like a great space! The Vitra Panton Chair that comes in chartreuse is definitely more on the green side of the spectrum than a canary yellow for instance. Although the lighting in your space (LED vs. Halogen vs. natural light, etc) may change the color appearance slightly, it will generally still appear more green.
