Design by Verner Panton, 1959.
Because of technical progress in plastics processing, the Panton Chair has been through a number of production phases since its original launch. The last version of the chair authorized by Verner Panton was produced in collaboration with the designer at the end of the 1990s. This model realized one of Panton's fundamental objectives for the first time: a plastic chair as an inexpensive industrial product. Suitable for indoor/outdoor use.
Building its business since 1950, Vitra has developed a wide range of furnishings for the office, home and public spaces in collaboration with progressive designers. The Panton Chair. Designed by Verner Panton in 1959.

Simple but elegant design

Just purchase this Panton chair in Ice Grey which has more blue in it than grey...very nice. The chair is surprisingly more comfortable than it looks and the looks are definitely eye catching. We are currently utilizing it in doors in a small library area. The order from Yliving when very smoothly, which was an added plus.
Comfortable but lightweight

I am using on an upstairs patio. They chair is SMALL, but very comfy. Using it with a bistro table, so it works. However, they are VERY lightweight, and when the wind blows, they do NOT stay in place, I must bring inside. Keep in mind your location for these chairs.
Great quality for the price

These chairs are very comfortable. Indeed, the color is not black, as mentioned by others, however as we were adding one to our existing three chairs, we knew about it. Actually, the color match to the three old ones (older than ten years) is perfect, which tells that the color is not fading at all and kept at the same quality over years. The chairs are durable and fit to many table styles.
Beautiful, even better than I expected.

These have a very nice color (a lot of blue, and a fair amount of grey also), heft and are very comfortable to sit in for longer periods. Perfect for a 28"-29" tall dining table.
love this chair!

The Panton chair is a classic. Not only does it look great, it sits extremely comfortably as well. Well priced and beautifully designed. The "grey ice" color has a lot of blue in it, and is a lovely shade, easy to live with. I love this chair.

The chairs are excellent quality and look fab. fyi, the color is "dark" not exactly black and the seat height is a tad low, so check measurements!
very comfortable and beautiful.

I gave this product 4 stars due to static. Otherwise love this. I want to have more colors.

Wonderful addition with the diverse design in my home. Beautiful lines that fit in many places. Currently using the chair for the creative work space in my home office. Particularly appreciate the classic enduring style influencing similar energies in my work.

A timeless design that will last forever.
Iconic design, comfortable but wish I hadn't gotten it in orange
By: Annie W., Renter (Chicago, IL)
I bought the Panton chair as a desk chair and it's surprisingly comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. Of course the design is fantastic, but I have to say that I wish I had gotten any other color but orange, which I ordered sight unseen. It's just a somewhat cheap looking orange in my opinion... more of a traffic cone orange than whatever hue I had in my head. Being a fairly inexpensive chair, I didn't think it was worth the shipping cost to send back. I can't fault the chair itself but I would suggest you see the orange color in person before ordering it.
Designer: Verner Panton
Verner Panton was an inspirational and colorful personality. A unique person with a special sense of colours, shapes, light function and room.
Over the course of his career Verner Panton (1926-1998) introduced a series of modern lamps with personalities unlike any of his Scandinavian contemporaries.
With a remarkable faith in the unlimited possibilities of the form, he worked successfully to create a new set of theories about how lighting should work and how it should influence its surroundings.
Verner Panton in his own words:
"The main purpose of my work is to provoke people into using their imagination. Most people spend their lives living in dreary, grey-beige conformity, mortally afraid of usning colors. By experimenting with lighting, colors, textiles and furniture and utilizing the latest technologies, I try to show new ways, to encourage people to use their fantasy imagination and make their surroundings more exciting".
Vitra has manufactured furniture designs by Charles & Ray Eames and George Nelson since 1957. Building on this foundation, Vitra has developed a wide range of furnishings for the office, for the home and for public spaces in collaboration with progressive designers. Yet Vitra is more than just a design-oriented manufacturing company. The name also stands for the Vitra Design Museum, for a collection of modern furniture and its accompanying archive, for workshops and publications on topics of design, and for an architectural concept that unites buildings by Frank Gehry, Nicholas Grimshaw, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Alvaro Siza, Herzog & de Meuron and SANAA at the Vitra Headquarters in Birsfelden (Switzerland) and on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein (Germany).
Product longevity is central to Vitra's contribution to sustainable development; short-lived styling is avoided at all costs. This can be seen most clearly in the classical pieces of furniture that have been used for decades, had several owners and have then even ended up as a part of a collection. For Vitra, the manufacture of sustainable products means intense pre-production development, where the highest-grade materials are selected and tests are carried out that simulate 15 years of use. In order to enforce and monitor sustainable development in all business activities of the company, a work group was formed in 1986 by the name of 'Vitra and the Environment'. Because of this, Vitra can proudly claim that it has been dedicated to sustainability for nearly a quarter of a century.View other products from Vitra
