Warli draws upon the age old craft of rug making to produce modern rugs in chromatic and tactile designs while maintaining a strong respect for the tradition and culture in which they are manufactured.
Founded in 1992, Warli was born of a chance meeting between master carpet weavers in northern India and Nepal and Italian designer Paolo Zani. Zani's creative curiosity was piqued when he was introduced to the age old craft of rug making and he quickly discovered the quality and artistic nuances of this art form. His designs for the brand are modern translations of these ancient techniques, rich in history and tradition. The chromatic and tactile designs are an expression of Zani's personal vision on lifestyle a vision of pleasing aesthetics and the quality of products that surround us every day. Warli was originally distributed exclusively by Moroso as part of their home catalog. Under the direction of Zani, the brand has grown an impressive catalog of handcrafted rugs, supplying them to private and commercial markets worldwide.
The Warli brand maintains a strong eco-friendly business ethic, using exclusively pure virgin wools with Azo-free dyes, 100% natural latex and cotton backing. Specialty materials include vegetable fibers like bamboo silk, linen, hemp and cactus which are processed without chemicals or dyes. Warli strives to maintain ethical working conditions by manufacturing its products within the Kaleen Project of socially responsible manufacturing promoted by the Indian CEPC. And they are part of Care&Fair, providing health and education projects within the regions they employ in India.
Warli has been honored with the 2009 Innovative and Creative Brand prize for start-up companies (Milan, Italy) and the 2010 Interior Design Magazine "Best in Innovative Products, Flooring Category" (U.S.A.).
