Y'A PAS LE FEU AU LAC was formed by master cabinet makers Grégory and Marie Bodel and designer FX Balléry. The team's passion for creation, their love of wood as well as their origins in the Jura Mountains of France, gathered them around a common project: to create a French brand of wooden contemporary, useful and elegant objects and small furniture items. And so they turned to compelling designers and the expert wood craftsmen of Jura, who have practiced wood handicrafts - turning out finely detailed, functional accessories and toys - for generations.
The name of the company translates roughly to, "there's no fire on the lake". Based on a French expression, it means "no need to rush". Inspired by traditional craft arts and current technology, Y'A PAS LE FEU AU LAC small accessories, tableware, vessels and furniture primarily use wood as a poetic, aesthetic and functional vector. Created by a collective of designers from around the world, the Y'A PAS LE FEU AU LAC products are an invitation to take your time, to contemplate your environment and to share with friends.
FX Balléry was born in 1977 in the French Jura. After originally pursuing a degree in science, he chose to go to the ESAD of Reims in 1996 to become a product designer. He soon won the "Comité Colbert Jeunes Talents Award" by designing a bag for Chanel. And shortly after, he discovered the Royal College of Art while working at Ron Arad's studio in London.
In 2000, having his degree in hand, he moved to England to do a master class in product design at the RCA. During his two years there, he enhanced his vision and practice of design by comparing his ideas with other students from all around the world. He won for the second time the "Comité Colbert Jeunes Talents Award" when he created a picnic set for Hermès and furthered his portfolio with clients and sponsors such as BPI, Yves Saint Laurent Beauté and Ricard. Returning to Paris, he founded his studio FX Balléry Design which provides services from product design to furniture design, packaging, merchandising and industrial design.
