We spend much of our life in bed. A boring bed isn’t so inviting, but with the Modern Bedroom Event going on at YLiving right now, you can step up your modern bed game and go beyond basic bedding to add some more excitement. Check out some of our favorite modern pieces that might bring some extra drama to your dreams:
First things first: the bed. While a mattress atop a standard bed frame is easy, it still feels like a dorm room. You can immediately upgrade your bedroom by buying a bed frame with a headboard and/or footboard. We love something with upholstery so you can prop up and read a good book without adding a bunch of pillows behind your head. The extra high, tufted headboard with wooden frame is a bit more dramatic than most upholstered headboards, too, giving your room a little extra “oomph”.
The Bedding: Bedding is one of those items that can make all the difference to a bed—even an entire bedroom! I’ve always opted for white bedding, but lately, I’ve been craving something crazy and outrageous—like this Missoni Home Porzia bedding. Missoni Home always knows how to add elegance, luxury and pizazz to any room. Their Porzia bedding reminds me of the times when, as a little girl, I would open my grandmother’s jewelry drawer to find all her sparkly, gems and treasures. Sleeping in this bed every night would make me feel like I was sleeping in a treasure chest.
If you’re going for vibrant patterned bedding, you might want to opt for something a little more toned down when it comes to accent pillows. I love these simple graphic Alexander Girard-designed Vitra pillows. I also love the basic beige Missoni Home Oman pillows—their texture creates a very subtle pattern that gives the pillow some interest, but not in an overwhelming way. Simple pillows with shapes and solid colors like these will create a nice focal point on your modern bed.
Finally, the icing on the cake is a cozy, modern throw. These striped throws by Scholten and Baijings from Thomas Eyck are the perfect addition because they come in a variety of sizes. We love their trendy pops of neon color. Surely one of these would keep you and someone else warm at night and is the perfect cozy blanket for late-night movie watching.
