When someone says “design classic,” the pieces from Knoll are ones that immediately come to mind. Knoll has been producing mid-century modern living room furniture from renowned designers like Eero Saarinen, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Harry Bertoia. All of these designs have been conveniently curated into Knoll Classics. These are a few of our favorites.
Womb Chair by Eero Saarinen
Designed by Eero Saarinen in 1948, the Saarinen Womb Chair is a lounge chair that you can most definitely curl up in. This chair has become one of Knoll’s most recognizable designs of modern living room furniture.
Saarinen Table by Eero Saarinen
It’s safe to say that the Saarinen Dining Table is one of the most coveted modern classics, which is no surprise given that it goes well with pretty much anything. Here, it’s paired with the architectural Bertoia Side Chair (plus, much more in the living room space beyond).
Tulip Armchair by Eero Saarinen
Nothing gets more mod than this combo. Both designed by Eero Saarinen, the Tulip Armchair with Seat Cushion and Saarinen Round Dining Table are modern classics that are better together. The award-winning Tulip Armchair was designed in 1957, a year after the Saarinen Dining Table hit the scene.
Diamond Lounge Chair by Harry Bertoia
Barcelona Chair by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
Classic doesn’t even begin to describe Ludwig Mies van der Rohe‘s Barcelona Chair. Designed in 1929, this icon modern living room furniture piece has been produced by Knoll since the ’50s. It has gone on to receive the 1977 Museum of Modern Art Award and remains an unparalleled classic design.
Platner Dining Table + Chairs by Warren Platner
Both designed by Warren Platner in 1966, the Platner Dining Table and Platner Arm Chair are wonders of curved steel. These modern classics also come in shimmering gold to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Planter Collection.
Lounge Collection by Florence Knoll
Clean and classic, the Florence Knoll Lounge Sofa is part of Florence Knoll‘s innovative 1954 Lounge Collection. The linear lines and tufted back of the sofa and lounge chair have made them iconic staples of the brand.
Bertoia Side Chair by Harry Bertoia
The airy look of the Bertoia Side Chair is considered a 1952 masterpiece for designer Harry Bertoia. Winning him the Designer of the Year award in 1955 and the Certificate of Merit from the American Institute of Architects, the chair is strong, light and surprisingly comfortable, especially with a cushion.
Wassily Chair by Marcel Bruer
Designed by Marcel Bruer in 1925, the Wassily Chair is a stunning display of innovation and modern design. You can see every component that comprises it: seven panels of leather stretched across tubular steel framing.
