For over 50 years, Robert Sonneman has been pioneering modern lighting by transforming it into an art form. A diverse range of experiences has shaped Sonneman's recognition and immaculate reputation in the industry. Beginning his career with George Kovacs, a lighting showroom, it was not long before Sonneman launched a lighting factory, designing his first line of lighting fixtures.
In 1967, he launched his own company under the Sonneman brand, and his products were featured in several high-end retailers' showrooms throughout the country. In 1974, Sonneman founded Sonneman Design Group, where he developed products for a variety of leading brands, while dividing his time between New York, Milan and Tokyo. Fifteen years later, Sonneman served as CEO of Ralph Lauren Home Product Development.
For decades, Sonneman's work has been featured in respected institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, Chicago Art Institute, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, UCLA Exhibition on Design, Krannert County Art Museum and the Houston Contemporary Arts Museum. He has also participated and guest lectured at Stanford University, Pratt School of Architecture and other universities.
In 2003, Robert Sonneman partnered with David Littman and Sonny Park and founded SONNEMAN - A Way of Light. Sonneman's current lighting collection features a thousand-plus designs in the styles of: Warm Contemporary, Ornamental Modernism, Modernist, LED Luminaires and many others. SONNEMAN is currently featured in more than two thousand lighting showrooms and over thirty exclusive galleries around the world.
