Gaetano Pesce

Gaetano Pesce is an architect, artist and designer born in La Spezia, Italy, in 1939. Over a 40-year career, Pesce carried out projects throughout the world in the fields of architecture, urban planning, interior design, and industrial and exhibition design. A student of architecture at the University of Venice, he wrote a manifesto decrying the boundaries of art and advocating for the right to inconsistency, change and freedom in art. His iconic Serie UP for B&B Italia, first made in 1969, featured seats with voluptuous shapes as a political message to denounce the condition of women in the world. Pesce’s multidisciplinary work is featured in the permanent collections of museums around the world including the Museum of Modern Art and Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Vitra Museum in Germany. His approach to design and his drive of constant tension leads to innovative and experimental designs.
