The Panthella Collection was designed by Verner Panton in 1971 and remain one of his most popular fixture designs. Panton developed the Panthella Floor Lamp to give off an organic shape and have both the foot and the shade serve as a reflector. The hemispherical acrylic shade reflects the light downwards and its surface, white opal acrylic, ensures the majority of the light is diffused around the room.

Louis Poulsen's approach to architectural development began with its collaboration with famous and well respected lighting designers, like Poul Henningsen. Together they created a lighting and product philosophy encompassed by the words "function", "comfort" and "ambience". This philosophy continues to influence simple and functional product design, which focuses on well-being and the perception of artificial light, which leads to the creation of unique lighting environments. Louis Poulsen's approach to lighting lies in a very strict and uncompromising product philosophy grounded in simplicity. All elements must serve a light-related purpose. The result is a product line that displays simple and discreet designs ideally suited to all types of architecture across cultural styles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have had this lamp for over twenty years I bought my first Panthella floor lamp in Denmark. I have since bought another one as my first one got destroyed in shipping from Denmark to America. The one I have is over 20 years old and I haven't had a problem with it ever. I also have the Panthella table lamp and the mini one as well. I love this lamp. It has classic Danish design and has withstood the test of time. I'm a little confused by the other review. The lamp has always had an acrylic dome at the top which gives plenty of light in a room but on the softer side. The stem is made of metal and the bottom is also of some kind of plastic/acrylic. The only thing that happens over time is that the bottom gets scratched some, especially if you have children that like to play with the on/off switch. However, no one notices it. I plan to buy another one for my bedroom as a reading floor lamp and possibly another mini for beside my bed. Unless, they have changed the design noticeably, this lamp will last for years if taken care of and will fit with any style furniture as it is plain but with style. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Strikingly low quality Shade is cheap white plastic not glass. Base is also cheap white thin plastic. Vertical shaft segments were misaligned. Nuts and bolts were loose. The socket rattled back and forth. The components holding the shade are cheap and the vertical threaded component which the metal shade retention cap threads onto is solid plastic no thicker than a miniature straw and will surely break over time. Really really shocking for a $1000 lamp. In fact in my years in architecture and design I have never seen such a thing. Sent it back.
